Thai Bodywork with Olga

Thai BodyworkThai Bodywork is an ancient energy-based healing system that combines acupressure, reflexology, and assisted yoga postures. Treatment effects are enhanced when the patient is fully relaxed and breathing deeply.

Traditional Thai bodywork uses no oils or lotions, and the recipient remains clothed during a treatment. There is constant body contact between the practitioner and client, but rather than rubbing on muscles, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked in order to clear energy blockages and relieve tension. The practitioner uses thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows, knees and feet to create a dance of movement on the body of the recipient. In this process, joints are opened, muscles and tendons are stretched, internal organs are toned, and energy is balanced. The overall effect is one of deep relaxation, rejuvenation, and physical and mental well being.

Thai Bodywork began to evolve in Thailand over 2,000 years ago. Based on healing principles similar to those utilized in other non-western healing therapies, the Thai system focuses on circulation of vital energy in major pathways called sen. The major energy lines are manipulated, and important pressure points along these pathways are stimulated to help break down blockages, stimulate energy flow and restore balance and harmony.

Identifying features of traditional Thai Bodywork are integrated yoga postures which are performed on the recipient. Through assisted yoga, the body is stretched in ways that are difficult to attain through individual exercise and yoga practice. The result of a full-body Thai treatment is often an exciting and powerful mind/body healing experience, bringing both the recipient and the practitioner to heightened states of physical and spiritual well-being.

For many, traditional Thai Bodywork is also a spiritual discipline in that it incorporates the practices of mindfulness (breath awareness) and loving kindness (focused compassion). These techniques, when shared by practitioner and client, help bring the treatment session to a focused and deep level.

Yoga of Energy Flow Series

yoga of energy flow

yoga of energy flowI am very excited to be bringing this style of yoga to the North Shore! I really loved my teacher training and enjoyed practicing this style. I hope you’ll love it as much as I do.

Drawing from several yoga styles, such as Kundalini, Meridian, and Kali Ray TriYoga, Yoga of Energy Flow is a unique and transformative method that integrates strength and flexibility training, energy cultivation, and open awareness.

Kundalini Yoga activates prana/chi energy, and strengthens the nervous system. Meridian Yoga opens and balances the internal energy flow. TriYoga, a vinyasa style, cultivates the flow of internal energy into a beautiful flow of postures; it is the art of meditation in action. Yoga of Energy Flow integrates these three styles into one unified, transformational practice.

By paying close attention to the movement of the spine in transition between poses and uniting that movement with breath, a unique appreciation for the movement of energy is developed. Your awareness expands and meditative states become easier to achieve.

Olga Kaminsky is a certified yoga teacher, Reiki Master Teacher, and an herbalist. She has graduated Yoga of Energy Flow teacher training in 2010 and has been helping her clients and students find peace and mindfulness amidst the chaos of life. Her wellness studio, Eternal Balance, is located at Cummings Center in Beverly.

This class is appropriate for all levels and beginners are welcome.

These classes will be held at Susan MacFarlane’s Wellness Studio at 186 Cabot St., Lower Level, Beverly, MA.

We are building interest to make this a regular offering!

Quieting The Mind

quieting the mind meditation class

Do you know what I miss? Silence! Just being quiet without any extra noises, no beeping, no little chirps and sounds all our electronic devices make. I am craving the contemplative silence of peace and stillness. I need the space to think straight and a chance to organize my thoughts. What about you? Are you looking to cultivate some inner stillness?

Come join me in this experiential class where we will attempt to quiet the mind that likes to jump all over the place so much! We will run through some of my favorite methods rooted in my energetic knowledge, my love of Kundalini yoga and its practices, and we will conclude with, hopefully, delicious stillness of the mind.

[Back to Basics] week 1

honeylemonwaterThis week we are focusing not so much on taking foods out, but on adding certain things in. Think of this week as a transition week that will help you prepare.

Mainly, we are adding two things to your day:
  • Starting the day with some warm honey/lemon water
  • Drinking yogi tea throughout the day
Start the day with warm honey/lemon water

After you get up and brush your teeth, have a small cup of warm, not cold, honey/lemon water. This should be your first drink of the day. I use a small cup and fill it with about 4 oz of hot water, add half a teaspoon of raw, local honey, and then a squeeze of lemon. I cut a lemon in half and just squeeze the half into my cup, but not all of it. I think I end up with about a tea spoon of lemon juice. You want to sip this as you are going about your morning and then have breakfast.

Tips:
You really should get honey at a farm stand. Tendercrop on 1A, formerly Canaan, has local honey. If you are buying at the supermarket, just read all the labels. A lot of supermarket honey is not actually honey. You are looking for raw and local. Local just has more benefits later on in the year as it will help with your seasonal allergies.

I got a big bag of lemons at Costco, which makes it convenient and affordable since I’ll have enough to last me the whole month. If you have one of those squeeze bottles of lemon juice, you can use that in a pinch, just go easy on it. You are looking for a pleasant lemon flavor, not to feel like you stuck a lemon in your mouth 🙂

This little drink helps kick-start your digestion and prepare you to have breakfast. It’s important that water temperature is hot or warm, but not cold. I also find that about 4 oz is enough and you do not need more than that, unless you want more.

Here is a link to an article tooting its benefits: https://www.healthambition.com/many-benefits-of-lemon-water/

Drink yogi tea between meals

You can buy yogi tea at a store, but it’s much nicer to make your own, it just tastes better.

Here is a recipe:

Bring 3 quarts of water to a boil
Add 20 whole cloves
Add 20 whole green cardamom pods
Add 20 whole black peppercorns
Add 5 sticks of cinnamon
Simmer for 15-20 minutes (uncovered is fine, it smells nice!)
Add 1/4 teaspoon of any black tea.
Simmer for 1-2 more minutes and turn off.

In a large cup, pour 8 oz of tea and add 4 oz of milk, enjoy!

Tips: Basically, you add half cup milk to a cup of liquid. I like to pour hot tea and then add a splash of milk, so it’s not exactly the same proportions as the recipe.

You want to avoid heating this up in the microwave, just on the stovetop. But if the only way you’ll drink is by using microwave, go for it.

If you don’t drink milk, do not use milk substitute (almond or soy milk). Instead, you can add a bit of coconut oil, or ghee. If you do drink milk, best is raw, second best is non-hydrogenated. That is available at Appleton Farm in Ipswich on 1A (call ahead, they don’t always have it, it has yellow top).

I find that this is sweet tasting enough, but you can also add a little honey to it.

You can heat up the tea together with milk, instead of adding milk later.

These are two things I’d like you to start doing. You might find that by drinking yogi tea you are not as hungry. Honor that feeling. Try to distinguish when you are truly hungry from when you are eating because it’s time to be eating.

And please share your experiences and ask questions!

Reiki Clinic

reikiclinicPracticing on others is often requested during classes, but there is only that much time we can spend on it in a context of a class. While some students have a supportive environment at home, some do not. Practicing on others is very helpful to developing your intuition and comfort with Reiki and feels different from working on yourself. And so, I want to open up the studio and make myself available to you for practice and learning.

You do not need to be my student to attend. Reiki practitioners from all schools and lineages are welcome.

We will need people to practice on and Reiki volunteers, of course!

If you are a Reiki volunteer, there is no cost for you to attend.

If you’d like to receive Reiki, suggested donation is between $10 and $20, but any amount you can give is OK.

Thursday, March 31 at 5:30pm and 6:30pm

Hypnotherapy for Breakthrough

With Olga Kaminsky, RMT

I am excited to offer this very special hypnotherapy session to facilitate change and growth in your life.

I think we all have certain things that we’d like to do and know they will make our lives better, but somehow we just don’t get around to them. You might want to have a regular meditation practice, or exercise routine, or journal every day. And you know that this one thing will most definitely improve your sense of well-being, but… You just don’t get around to it. You might be tired, or out of time, or it’s just not a good day to start.

This session works by eliminating all those obstacles by working directly with your subconscious mind. It eliminates obstacles on physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual levels. The results have been remarkable and pretty instantaneous too.

45 to 60 min session: $70 ($45 in August)

Chakra-balancing-meditation_1Reiki Master Class

Reiki Master training is for those who have completed Reiki 2 and feel ready to continue with their education and growth. Reiki Master program is an intense course of study that takes you on a journey and brings you closer to what you were born to do in this world.

I am drawing on my love of living in a heart-space to compliment the Reiki Master training materials. Living from the heart becomes a natural extension of working with Reiki energy and the focus of the training will be not just learning how to work with Reiki, but also how to bring heart and love to all you do.
“This class came at just the right time for me to open my heart and trust my intuition. The last 6 months has given me a lot of personal/spiritual growth.” – Heather B.

Reiki Master training consists of 12 classes over the course of 6 months. We meet every other week for three hours. There is time for practice, as well as contemplation, learning and discovering new things and ideas. You will learn all you need to be able to offer Reiki in a professional setting. However, the class is also appropriate for those that wish to further their understanding of Reiki and connection to their heart space.

The class size is limited to 3 people. The tuition for Reiki Master training is $858 and it can be paid in monthly installments of $143 or bring a payment of $72 to every class. There is some flexibility in when we meet so if you can’t make one of the weekends, we will work around it. You need to be able to make most of the weekends and attendance at all of them is necessary to graduate.

“You are a very good teacher, very knowledgeable, well spoken. I will miss seeing you every other week.” – Bonnie B.

In this training we will be working with Love for no Reason book by Marci Schimoff. It will be provided at our first class.

The training is structured to follow the rise of Kundalini through the chakras. We start at the root and go up, up, up!

We will also touch on complimentary modalities like aromatherapy, working with natural stones, acupressure and auriculotherapy.
Classes are scheduled to start on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at 10:00am.
